Obama to GOP: 'I Won' (from WSJ.com)

Meant to post this earlier... this late day Friday news piece put a smile on the end of a historic week...

"[Senate Minority Whip Jon Kyl of Arizona] challenged the president and the Democratic leaders over the balance between the package’s spending and tax cuts, bringing up the traditional Republican notion that a tax credit for people who do not earn enough to pay income taxes is not a tax cut but a government check.

"Obama noted that such workers pay Social Security and Medicare taxes, property taxes and sales taxes. The issue was widely debated during the presidential campaign, when Sen. John McCain, the Republican nominee, challenged Obama’s tax plan as “welfare.”

"With those two words — “I won” — the Democratic president let the Republicans know that debate has been put to rest Nov. 4."

Economy Watch: Non-Traditional Indicators

Man-o-man was the NY Times magazine considerably lighter this week. What's up with the coverage, I first thought. Then I realized the difference was attributable to what seemed like a 95% decrease in ad space sold. Funny that there just aren't the same number of ads for luxury condos that overlook Central Park. Imagine that.

Sadly, though, this will eventually translate into a reduction of coverage... The Sunday Times is an institution in the G-P household. Please Mr. Economy, don't take that away from me.
