The thing is caramel
The thing is time
The thing is disruption, distraction, and distortion
I mean birds in Virginia, backup singers, and bad choices
Because someone invented musical roads
And there’s a house somewhere with two Albrights in it
These things can make sense
Like an unexpected complement of succulents on an otherwise ordinary day
Fuck. That. Guy.

Earthful
The felled over long-ass days all Summer
One life smears into the next
Too many stories and too many styles
Every song a siren’s song
This wheel, that beachcomber bonfire
This jacquard became the center of our lives
That switch became another became another and now we’re driving places after sundown
When gains are twinned with memories
When your sense of self subtracts time
When gravity
When back-lighting
When dilation
When deference
Smoke rises into the night somewhere
Let’s count

Wares, Err, Mod, Five
Everybody comes to me
A fish with a suitcase
Your fourth grade teacher
And the other one, too
The castle walls are prickly with vines
We tell stories in the evening
We’ve had our supper
We are still Americans
What’s left is relative
Pile pliable materials for pickup
Remembering those small fridges
Small ice trays for small ice
We’ve got what we got after we get it
Amber and then asphalt and still time

This is a jar and wax and copper and conveyance
This is a jar and wax and a seal for lateral movement
Robbing time to pay space, always
We pray for change by slowing time, not exactly
This is a jar and wax and frames and frames and frames and frames
Someone has seen weather from space
Some many have made this air we breathe
Everything tripping over everything up to this moment and on
Sleeve sleeve sleeve into a giant ribbon of moments
A ball of string, this jar, wax and frames
A ball of string
This war, this warren, this worn

Feather Fallow Sparrow Sound
What started with heat
Several stages of closeness and as many of distance
The Mid-Atlantic humidity of full-throated July
What started as a sketch
What started as a Sunday
What started somewhere and went everywhere
You divide things by other things
You walk around the block
Flowers burst forth
Suns blaze
We’ll all make metals
We’ll all be sure

Presst
Sevit yarn-rails round
Yay, yay-verre after aft alone
Liar gouge how given
Then they say, then pay, then pay
The pale
The lowance
Valence veiled in vinnages
Archae still coming
All the lines are lies in this cube
More blue pencil, both jittery and true
Cover it all and counting

Stand Still / Standstill
Stand. Standoff. Stand off-ish.
Stanley. Stained.
Step sim seldom say.
Stim stun stellar. Submarine. Submerge. Subtle. Not so.
I don’t know what you want.
I don’t know what you want.
Dream drams and drama.
Hope hills and hirelings.
Heave heavens, have among the stars.
Stare blankly and in full.
Hole, whole holy.
These bleached garments, then birds, then soil.
Upon days until grayest gray.
(Stay a little bit longer)

Slowly Goes When What
Lav, have you something
Sender returns
Rain returns
Reruns and truer cats
Still centers centered still
Raven-reviled sufferer
And scarves from far off lands
You have seen
The sketching blue pencil
The sketching gray pencil
Not thinking in pairs, though
And this isn’t magic
The love you loved still belongs to you
The sun has yet to falter

Winter Summer
Bright outside the window
As seen from climate-control
Probably warm, probably humid
Nobody’s going out, again
The smell of old woodsmoke from the fireplace
I’m opening the blinds onto the neighbor’s yard
The azaleas past their prime,
The pachysandra vs. the weeds and the poison ivy
Generations of deer and foxes
An errant box turtle of some sort
The ghost of former elms and everything else that’s left
Nobody’s leaving, again
As seen from climate-control
Probably warm, probably humid
Nobody’s going out, again
The smell of old woodsmoke from the fireplace
I’m opening the blinds onto the neighbor’s yard

It Sounds Better When You’re Studying
Blanked?
Blanked
Some kid under a tree reading a book on their phone
A pile of jokes
A pile of bricks
A pile of days
Means, most, melting point
January’s bon vivant
And is there a middle seat in France?
The spirits wrap around us
Lovely fingers
Lovely arms
Your on the moon
Head held high
Even angels have feet
They say

In Summary
Here’s a thing I care about
I’ll write about it
And maybe you’ll care, too
I’ll write about it
And maybe you’ll care, too
