Thirteen Ways of Looking at a Great Sunday

Good sleep
Coffee
The Complete In a Silent Way Sessions
Sunday New York Times
Orange-cardamom french toast
Neutral Milk Hotel
Sasquatch Stories (by Mike Topp)
The free Circulator bus in Baltimore
Putty Hill (the movie)
Sunshine
VCU beats Kansas
Joe Cashiola in town – time with him and Justin
30th Anniversary Pac-Man

This was supposed to be a longer thing I would write last night with statements / short little paragraphs for each and "thanks" notes where it mattered. That might all still come. Thanks to many all the same. Great day.

Good Night, Ms. Ferraro

My 8-year old daughter doesn't yet appreciate what you did, but she will.

Hydrate, People. We're Heading Out.

Things were going well until they weren't and 42 people were wiped from existence.

First they were blue.

When I wake up tomorrow, I will be well-rested enough and ready for a new week.

It is Spring now. I ate crabs earlier tonight. And chocolate cake.

If cats can love, this one loves me.
If cats can't love, I must smell good to her or be warm when she wants some warm.

I've got things going for me.
I've got clothes and a job and a ceiling over me head that has a roof over it.

When you see the wonder, think of me.
When you eat something stringy, think of me.
When you yawn a little too hard and it makes you cough, think of me. And also think of seeing a doctor, because you might be on your way to some throat troubles you want to avoid. I can tell you all about it.

When the sunlight hits you square in the eyes and your driving and there's traffic all around, just stay calm. Keeping cool will get you far.

I thought back twenty years today and nineteen years and twenty-two-ish years. I thought of long-lost friends who aren't really lost thanks to Facebook. I can see photos of them and their kids and wives and such. And I can see what they've done all these years. The Internet is a funny bird.

My car is a tough cookie. We call it Old Man Echo, now.

The wind is a dull knife and a duller roar.

A penny tastes like victory when you are feeling good. A nail tastes like even more victory when it's new.

A mind is so many things to so many people and an engine. It loves sugar.

A parking lot is shaped like a midwestern state.

A duvet cover holds a comforter in my world. There are no duvets here.

And there are no divers either, despite what the algorithms repeatedly tell me.

In the morning, I'll put a sock over this foot and then a shoe over that and then it'll be the second day of Spring.

I'm lining up the miles and knocking them down, destination after destination.

New places are mirrors. Luggage is penance. Layovers are liminal (no really, I'm telling that straight). Tickets are promises. Tickets are notices. Tickets are printed on paper and will fade and compost and go to soil.

I'm not feeling exactly sexy right now.

Foursquare Update Adds Recommendations and Rewards

I've said before that PJ Harvey just keeps on making the same album, but I like that album and I'll keep on buying it. He agreed.

My Hulu Queue has a lot it wants to update me on, but I'm ignoring it. A lot of things want to update me, but I haven't found the time to let them know I don't want to hear from them anymore.

I just deleted 43 emails and none of them were
Politics View is now following you on Twitter!
Paul Stark is now following you on Twitter!
Boost Ur Community is now following you on Twitter!
Bob Nocek is now following you on Twitter!
The Indie Biz is now following you on Twitter!
OMG_Baltimore is now following you on Twitter! 0r
Stop Homelessness is now following you on Twitter!

Well, me-from-the-future is not following me on Twitter
Me-in-long-sentences is not following me on Twitter, and
Me-but-with-more-sleep is certainly not following me on Twitter

I'm still mad at my iPad for eating that thing I'd written the other night.
I think that was a Wednesday, too.
My daughter was over.

I decided I should tag this Current Events, too,
And then I deleted 122 emails including
DEAR BELOVED
MY HEART CHOOSE TO BLESS YOU. and
Dear beloved.

This was originally called, "I'm Liveblogging the Oscars from Your Past" when I was going to write it a few days ago, and it might still be called that some day, but have all different words.

If I could sort by all caps I'd find new ways to waste more time.

Stacks and stacks of unread emails
A closet full of hangers to take back to the dry cleaners
A car that needs an oil change
A doctor's appointment to check in on a year's worth of best-still-be-minor ailments
Entanglements like dust bunnies
Even a vacation to plan

A frozen pizza in the freezer
A loaf of bread in the fridge
Some eggs to throw out
Recycling to cart

The buses run late in Mount Vernon
There's a hospital named Mercy down the street
No shit, I can see it's green sign from my window
With a little flashing red light

Earlier, the sound of rain on the skylights, but no worries about flooding up a fourth floor walk up

I'm not making my way to a point here

What are you planning for 11/11/11?

The Fielder Announces His Intentions Loudly As To Alert Nearby Teammates

I just lost this whole poem to my blog posting app's latest update. I guess I missed the fine print that said they'd added a new "screw your late night writing" feature -- clearly having decided they could find better ways to serve me after 9 months of workhorse-like reliability.

Torn on whether I'll try to reconstruct it in the morning or some other later time in life.

It contained...
Gertrude Stein
East Bridgewater
Van Halen
The word "motherfucker"
A partial quote from a guy on NPR that peeved me
Someone named Alice
A raindrop to the eye
And xoxo

Crap.

That's One Way to Go

Some experts call for daily applications.
Some call for no more than 14 days.

Twenty-eight can be a magic number.
Showering can be important.

Dental hygiene is far easier to spell when you have auto-complete standing behind you.

Is math your friend?
By math, I mean equations and software and robots.
Don't be afraid.

This is an early scene and no doubt we'll encounter some mechanical chompers soon.

They are telling me that I meant "choppers," but I didn't.
They are telling me "chompers" isn't a word.
They're trying to trick me wrapped in helping me and that's how they do.
Isn't it cute?

Things have been mediated your whole life.
Don't be afraid.

And only islands are islands. Don't be afraid.

One night you dream that language isolates are gorgeous.
Another night you dream about interstates and tubes.

You get to do that day after day as long as you keep eating.
That's what it means to be part of all this.

Still Reading Tomorrow at Big Bear (Well Actually, Later Today), But Right Now I'm Writing

Should've followed through on that threat to mix single malt and Ben & Jerry's.

You don't stop.

There, as another threat to just close my eyes.

I play by the seat of my pants.
I believe in luck and blind luck and people that jump out of planes.

He believes the DH is ruining the game and something about long kisses.

I've heard of this thing you call history.
I've heard of gossip.
I've heard or uprisings and revolutions and this thing called Twitter.

I've heard of Egypt and Tunisia and also Baton Rouge and Key Largo and Plachman's Parrish and Fresno and Sin City.
Look at them all line up like that.
I could keep on.

Roll them up, knock them down, spell them right or wrong, say horrible things about them, roll them around on your tongue, dream about them, buy tickets to get to them, rent cars in them and rooms and pay taxes on sundry purchases.

Bodies crawl across them by the thousands;
Heads peek around thresholds;
Weights press down.
People look up at a sudden noise.

Don't stop when you feel it in your ears and across your eyelids.
Don't stop when you Nashville or Philly-Sunday-morning.
Don't stop when they say you've had enough, because you
You, sir or ma'am, are the only one who really knows.

Now get back in there, they are waiting for your entertainments.
Can't you hear their teeth?

It's Behind and It's Tabled

His head was so full today.

And it's cold season.

A twitch of the fingers says oats somewhere in California.
And California is always coming up — played
"Move to California" while making red sauce,
but for the sound more than the meaning.

Stay there another year.
We'll see you again.

The snow has fallen,
The world is snoring,
Here I come.

There will be woods all around,
And leaves budding and being and falling
And honest to god pine trees.
And we'll have a great time.

I know we will,
We just need a decider.
