The Later I Ask, The Later You Tell Me

When you reach for your elbow

When you send your ways to me

When the rain goes halfsies

Skates and skimming and Salvation Armies on every block

When you wake up a few minutes ahead of your alarm and just watch the clock without anxiety or unrest or anything

When the clouds roll in and it's just the weather

When it's time to conserve some water or energy or whatever

There was magnetism and electricity and petroleum-based products lining the shelves

When they sweep the leg

Or you find just the perfect coat for the season's ups and downs

Jackets come next

And sleep

And there's always a dance waiting to happen
